Making the most of your photography session
You are busy, I am busy, everyone is busy. Since we will likely have limited time for our photographic session, some planning can help with the process. Please read, or print out and read the following documents and instructions:
Session Ideas:
This is a 3 page document. It contains suggestions for Props, Costumes,
Locations and Story Lines. The props, costumes, story lines, and, locations come
together to develop a theme. The theme is what makes the photograph unique and
different. In the absence of a theme, the image is basically a standard
portrait. I can do a standard portrait if you desire, or we can work towards
developing themed, unique images.
I do not know what level of expertise models may have in posing. I will bring some posing guides to help us pick some poses that might be flattering for the model(s). If you know all your poses, fine, if not, do not be insulted that I have guides, I need them.
If you have specific ideas of what you want, such as a new head shot, and nothing else, let me know in advance, It will save me from lugging unnecessary (and heavy) equipment to the shoot, or, remind me to bring a specific piece of equipment if needed.
Models are invited and encouraged to bring their creativity to the table. Do you have a great idea for a shoot, and are looking for the right photographer to bring it to life, let me know. Our time together will be more productive if it is a collaboration, and, two heads are better than one.
What To Wear When You Are Photographed:
Although this 3 page document addresses what to wear when there is more than 1 subject in the photographic image, it is valid even if you are alone. The tips about color selection and clothing choices are valid for most standard portraits, and some themed photographic sessions as well, for instance the tips about the color of your pet if included in the photographs.
Model is responsible for makeup and wardrobe, unless specifically stated otherwise in the casting call,
Make-up should be applied as if you were going out for a night of clubbing (the camera tends to reduce the overall look of make-up) unless specifically stated otherwise in the casting call.
We are not 'going out clubbing' unless it is a commercial, paid shoot to produce images for a club, or, for a commercial (paid) project that has a club theme. In that case, I will be going as the paid professional photographer/artist, and the model will be going as the paid, professional model/artist.
Recommend 3 - 5 changes of wardrobe (or more)
If the shoot is in Central Florida, I will bring a Pop-Up changing room if a changing room is not on location. (The pop-up changing room can be seen here: http://shop.onemodelplace.com/, and http://shop.onemodelplace.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=112. I have the blue one.)
Props can be obtained for most shoots if adequate notice for props is received.
A good estimate is to figure 1 change of wardrobe per hour of picture taking if everything goes smoothly. If we are together for images for 4 hours, plan for 30 minutes of pre-shoot and set up. If you can change wardrobe in 10 minutes, then we could get 3 wardrobe changes with photos completed.
TF Contract and Model Release:
This is just what it says it is. It is also 3 pages. Be prepared to sign this release if we are doing a TF session of any type. Your choice regarding the images you will receive is either 1. or 2. below:
Shoot and Burn:
You will receive all the images as they are captured, straight from camera
to CD or DVD without any editing. Good and bad. Images will be provided in
High resolution jpeg format in 1 - 2 weeks.
Shoot, Edit and Burn:
After our session, I will edit out all the bad images (out of focus, very bad
composition...), I will do basic exposure, white balance and color
correction. You will then receive all images that are 'good to great' in
jpeg format, both in high resolution (suitable for printing out for 8 X 10
or comp cards) and low resolution (best for use on the internet). Images
will be provided on CD or DVD in 1 - 4 weeks.
Shoot, Edit, Touch-Up and Burn:
I will touch-up blemishes and make pixel level adjustments on up to 5
images of my choice. This will take a little more time before images can be
delivered. This offer is made
only to models that have:
More than one (1) photographic session with me, or,
On the first session if the images are bikini, boudoir, lingerie or artistic nudes.
Otherwise, if you wish to have images touched up by me from our first
photographic session, there is a $15.00 charge per image, model chooses
images.
Images will be provided on CD or DVD in 2 - 6 weeks.
CDs and DVDs will be provided for the model in a timely manner. For option 1. above, anticipate my sending you the images in 1-2 weeks (I shoot models in RAW format and it takes time to convert ALL the images to jpeg format). If you choose option 2. above, anticipate my sending you the images in 1-4 weeks. If option 3. is chosen, anticipate my sending you the images in 2-6 weeks.
If you are not willing to print and read these documents and instructions, then please do not waste your time scheduling a session with me, your time is precious and should be respected.
Pre-Shoot and Set-up
Lastly, everything I have read and seen about model photography leads me to the realization that both the model and the photographer need to be comfortable with each other in order to work together to produce great images.
I am NOT looking for a boyfriend, a girlfriend, a significant other, or any type of dating arrangement, However,
I expect us to be able to be friends for the time(s) we get together, similar to coworkers in a non-photography / non-modeling job, after all, if we are getting together to work at creating some great images, it is work, for both of us (ie: coworkers). While setting up equipment and during the session, I will talk to the model, and expect the model to talk to me. This will help break the ice and provide time to share ideas for the session. I prefer to break the ice enough for us to be comfortable in each other's presence. If you are comfortable already, great, than give me a little time to get comfortable with you.
If you want to be total strangers, with no communication between model and photographer, start by not contacting me at all, after all your time is precious and should be respected.
